Bonjour à tous,
In a thriller that I'm reading I found this sentence :
'Bosch was in cell 3 of the old San Fernando jail, looking through files from one of the Esme Tavares boxes, when a heads-up text came in from Bella Lourdes over in the detective bureau.'
What exactly is a heads-up text ? Some kind of SMS ? I can't figure it out.
Thank you for your help.
Jo

Hello!
To "give someone the heads-up" is to warn someone, to give a good tip in advance. It's colloquial English.

Thank you for your help.
But I'm a bit confused. It seems that the whole sentence wasn't posted when I submitted my question in the first post.
There it is : "when a heads-up text came in from Bella Lourdes over in the detective bureau".
This is why I thought it was related to some kind of device.

Hello.
Some companies have borrowed the phrase as explained above by here4u. It seems to refer to the bad practice of looking down at your phone while walking or driving.
Here is a link to one of them. Lien internet

Hello
You had written your sentence, but it was hidden because of wrong signs instead of inverted commas.
I have just seen the bug, and then I repaired it.
The whole sentence can be read now.

Dear All,
Many thanks : for your time, your corrections of my sentences and, in the end, for your answers.
All my best.
